We are pleased to present our new publication, Innovation Lab for Museums: Case Studies in Innovation and Adaptive Capacity – featuring Latino New South. Download the one-page case snapshot here, and the full publication here.

EmcArts launched its Innovation Labs for the Arts to support organizations in incubating innovation projects – conceiving, designing and testing new strategies to achieve public value. Now, after seven years and 49 participating organizations, we are stepping back to reflect on the longer-term impacts of the Innovation Lab, in order to better understand how and where it has had identifiable impact, and to appreciate more fully the productive messiness of what adaptive change is actually like in practice.

This case study on Latino New South follows the journey and partnerships of three cultural institutions – the Levine Museum of the New South (Charlotte, NC), the Atlanta History Center (Atlanta, GA), and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (Birmingham, AL). These three organizations entered the Innovation Lab for Museums with the intention of making their programs and institutions more resonant with, and responsive to, the fast-growing Latino communities in their respective cities.
